The Ghan is iconic for a reason. Its bold-red locomotive matches the red earth it travels across, all the while connecting to the outback and the incredible scenery of the Red Centre. There are two possible journeys on The Ghan. Travelling northbound on a new extended itinerary for 2027, The Legendary Ghan calls in to a celebrated South Australian wine region for a signature first night dinner among the lush green landscapes. Continuing on to the Flinders Ranges, Marla, Alice Springs and Katherine over an unforgettable four-day adventure.
Travelling south, The Ghan Expedition covers four epic days. Departing Darwin for Adelaide the train stops in Katherine, Coober Pedy, and a unique dinner under the stars at the Telegraph Station in Alice Springs that is often described as the pinnacle of the adventure. From coast to coast, the Indian Pacific is a rolling slideshow of contrasting landscapes and endless horizons. Showcasing the diversity of Australia, the Indian Pacific crosses an impressive 4,352 kilometres on its journey between Perth and Sydney, passing through rugged mountain ranges, arid desert plains and world-renowned wine regions.
Travelling east, the Indian Pacific is an epic five-day journey crossing the world’s longest stretch of straight railway track on the Nullarbor Plain. Travelling west, the journey takes four-days and begins with the rugged ranges of the Blue Mountains. For those with a little less time but an equally adventurous spirit, the trip can be experienced in segments, between Perth and Adelaide or Sydney and Adelaide.
