Hosting the Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam and his wife, Margaret, aboard the inaugural Adelaide to Darwin Ghan journey was a momentous start to what would become 21 remarkable years of rail service. Framed as a key memory for Catherine, Terminal Manager at Adelaide’s Parkland Terminal, “that” trip, among many others, sees her front-row seat as a fixture of Journey Beyond staff as a rolling adventure. “Things have changed quite a bit since I started working on the trains. It’s no longer a train trip, but an experience.”
Reflecting on her time with Journey Beyond, Catherine feels fortunate to have witnessed Australia’s vast and diverse landscapes. “It’s confirmed just how stunning and varied our country is. I’ve learned so much from the resilience of people in remote areas like Cook and Rawlinna. It’s truly incredible.”
