Leaving Adelaide behind, relax, unwind and enjoy the spectacular scenery gliding past as you settle into this special 4-day journey. Expect to spend your time relaxing or socialising as you enjoy the ambience of the train, before stepping off to immerse yourself in Off Train Experiences as you journey towards Brisbane. Travelling through the magical Adelaide Hills, you’ll soon be in the ancient Grampians region in Victoria. Then, it’s on to Orange in the Central Tablelands region of New South Wales, and the historic country towns of Gulgong and Mudgee, before rolling into the final destination of Brisbane.

As the train leaves Adelaide, take your time to settle in and get familiar with your cabin. Enjoy morning tea and then savour a relaxed lunch on board while watching the ever-changing landscape glide by. In the afternoon, the train will arrive in regional Victoria where you’ll have a chance to experience the spectacular wilderness of the Grampians region. Choose from a range of Off Train Experiences. Whether it’s taking in the views from Boroka Lookout, taking a guided walk of the Venus Baths Loop Walk, visiting Pomonal Estate or Fallen Giants vineyard for an epicurean adventure, or going sky high with an optional helicopter flight over the Grampians.
After a leisurely breakfast and relaxed morning on board, we’ll arrive in Parkes and transfer to the spectacular Rowlee Wines vineyard. Situated 950 metres above sea level in the cool-climate region of Orange, this will be the setting for an unforgettable two-course lunch, overlooking the vines. After dining, choose to experience the vineyard by sampling the wines on a Tour & Tasting, take a Garden Tour, or discover the nuances of Rowlee wines with a Sensory Wine Experience. After a brief stop at the Orange Visitor Centre, housed in an award-winning new building, and the opportunity to visit the co-located Orange Regional Museum, we’ll return to the Great Southern for a sumptuous on-board dinner, perhaps followed by a nightcap.
Arriving early morning into Gulgong Station, and after breakfast, transfer just down the road to the historic centre of Gulgong. With a streetscape largely unchanged since the late 1800s, visiting Gulgong is like stepping back in time. Learn more about the history of this 19th-century gold-rush town on a tour of the Gulgong Holtermann Museum, which is housed in two State Heritage-listed buildings. Be transported back to the 1870s through the UNESCO-listed Holtermann Collection of photographs enhanced with digital details. Visit the Gulgong Pioneers Museum, which features three original relocated buildings and an original in situ streetscape. These buildings capture the essence of the early history of Gulgong. Transferring to Mudgee, our next destination is the Lowe Family Wine Co. Sample the produce from the certified organic and biodynamic farm, vineyard, winery and food gardens on a Wine Tasting and delectable two-course lunch, before returning to the Great Southern to travel onwards over dinner.
After light refreshments on board, arrive into Brisbane in the early morning, concluding your summer journey on the Great Southern.
