MCLAREN VALE WINERY EXPERIENCE

Known as the place where the ‘vines meet the sea’, beautiful McLaren Vale is within easy reach of Adelaide and full of culinary surprises. A famous and prolific wine growing region set along 30 kilometres of stunning coastline and ridges, McLaren Vale is also known for the warmth and friendliness of the locals who are always willing to share the secrets of the delicious wines produced here.

You’ll enjoy a wonderful cellar door experience at Coriole Vineyards, founded by Hugh and Molly Lloyd in 1967. The estate is located among the rolling hills, and features Shiraz vines planted immediately after the end of the First World War.

Sample reserve wines while taking in the lush vistas toward the Fleurieu Bight. Your wine tasting experience is accompanied by Coriole’s own olives, and a selection of sophisticated Woodside artisan cow and goat’s milk cheeses. With your palate warmed up by the cellar door session, head to the Star of Greece restaurant for more amazing views of Gulf St Vincent and a sumptuous meal accompanied by regional produce and those signature McLaren Vale wines.

Hahndorf: Cheese

This charming village just 40 minutes from Adelaide is a little slice of Germany down under. In 1839, Captain Dirk Meinertz Hahn headed to the Adelaide Hills looking for fertile country to start a new settlement. It wasn’t long before 200 German Lutheran migrants followed him and Hahndorf was born.

With the vineyards of the Adelaide Hills on its doorstep, Hahndorf has also become a gastronomic hotspot.

Enjoy a Cheese flight paired with the Grunthal Cider and a history of Udder delights and its establishment.

After you’ve indulged, you’ll head to the Haus – a German restaurant showcasing the best in local produce. Enjoy rousing entertainment as you tuck into a Bavarian-inspired dinner before returning to the Indian Pacific for your journey onwards through the night.
