Mid-afternoon, the train pulls into Long Plains, where you’ll disembark and transfer 50 minutes in comfortable coaches to the world-renowned wine-producing region of the Barossa Valley. You’ll spend the evening at Seppeltsfield Estate, delighting in a signature dining experience in the vintage cellar.
A traditional ‘Firing of the Barrel’ display is part of the evening, as well as a food and wine pairing curated by Executive Chef Owen Andrews, highlighting regional produce and traditional methods that reflect the story of the Barossa. Here, Platinum guests are also treated to a special 100-year-old vintage Tawny tasting experience.
After dinner, you’ll return to the Indian Pacific, continuing your rail journey through the night.

Designed exclusively for guests of the Australis and Aurora Suites, this intimate Off Train Experience invites you to discover the Barossa Valley in refined luxury.
On arrival at Long Plains, travel by premium vehicle with fellow suite guests to the acclaimed Hentley Farm for a private, out-of-hours visit. Here, enjoy a guided tasting of exceptional wines thoughtfully paired with regional delicacies, while gaining insight into the estate’s rich history and the character of this celebrated wine region.
Later, continue to the historic Seppeltsfield Estate to join all onboard guests for a signature dining experience within its grand heritage surrounds. Witness the traditional ‘Firing of the Barrel’ while enjoying a food and wine pairing curated by Executive Chef Owen Andrews, highlighting local produce and traditional methods that reflect the story of the Barossa.
To conclude the evening, Australis and Aurora guests will enjoy an exclusive tasting from the Centennial Collection — the world’s only unbroken lineage of single vintage Tawny, spanning 149 consecutive vintages — before returning to the train, your journey enriched by the stories, flavours and quiet grandeur of the Barossa.
Recommended Fitness Level: Low fitness – guests must be able to disembark the train via a set of carriage steps at Long Plains and walk approximately 200 metres to the transfer vehicle and dinner venue. Please note that paths may be uneven, and the dinner venue features a compacted dirt floor.
