The town of Broome is reputed for its history and its glorious pearling era. The day is yours to enjoy at leisure. Visit the fascinating Chinatown district, the historic city centre, and the Japanese Cemetery, dating back to 1896. This area’s past is marked by the immigration of numerous Chinese and Japanese workers who came to Broome for the pearl industry at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. See the natural landscape change as the sun rises and sets. This morning you will depart Broome by coach and travel to Derby where you will board your awaiting seaplane for your scenic flight to Horizontal Falls.

Your time in Broome comes to an end this morning as you join your economy flight to Perth. On arrival in Perth, you will be transferred to your accommodation and your base for the next three nights. (B)

Make your way to Barrack Street Jetty and board Rottnest Express, bound for Rottnest Island, 22kms offshore. On arrival, a 90-minute air-conditioned bus tour around ‘Rotto’ takes you to some spectacular locations, including Wadjemup Lighthouse and the boardwalk lookout at the rugged west end. Feast on a delicious lunch before exploring the island at your leisure – make sure you meet a quokka. Return to Perth by ferry in the afternoon. (B,L) 

It might be the largest state in Australia, but Western Australia’s capital city features a conveniently compact centre, packed with things to see and do. Enjoy your day at leisure in Perth visiting Kings Park, Barrack Square or some of the many museums and galleries. (B)

After breakfast, take in any last-minute sights before transferring to the Rail Terminal.

Your transcontinental adventure begins in Perth, where you’ll gather with fellow travellers for a warm welcome and a celebratory start to your journey. As the Indian Pacific departs and the sun dips low over the west, settle into your cabin or meet new friends in the lounge before savouring your first chef-prepared dinner on board. (B,D)

Rise to see the sunrise across the vast Nullarbor before arriving in Kalgoorlie, Australia’s largest outback town. This morning, delve into the region’s fascinating past and present with a visit to its gold-rush heritage and the modern-day Super Pit mine. Choose your Off Train Experience and explore Kalgoorlie your way, with morning refreshments included.

After brunch on board, spend the afternoon at your leisure with fine hospitality as the Nullarbor passes by. Along the way, you’ll cross state borders and time zones before settling in for a regionally inspired dinner on board. Later, arrive into Cook, South Australia. Once a bustling town and today only a handful of residents remain. Step off into this outback outpost where its stories endure and, as evening falls, look skyward. With little light pollution, Cook offers an extraordinary view of the night sky, including the Southern Cross and other constellations when conditions are right. (B,L,D)

Spend the morning travelling through the pastoral heart of South Australia, with sweeping views of the Flinders Ranges, Spencer Gulf, and the Adelaide Plains unfolding beyond your window. A leisurely breakfast and lunch are served on board, inviting you to savour the relaxed rhythm of train travel.

In the afternoon, disembark at Long Plains and transfer by coach to the world-renowned Barossa Valley. Here, at the historic Seppeltsfield Estate, an evening of fine wine and dining awaits. Begin with a wine and canapé tasting before heading into the vintage cellar for a signature culinary experience created exclusively for Indian Pacific guests. Witness the spectacular ‘Firing of the Barrel’ before enjoying a food and wine pairing designed by Executive Chef Owen Andrews. Your final day begins in the majestic Blue Mountains, where soaring sandstone cliffs and eucalypt valleys create a World Heritage–listed landscape unlike any other. After breakfast, farewell the Indian Pacific and step into this extraordinary bushland for your Off Train Experience.
